<description>Aside from many new features, GRASS GIS 8 brings an improved graphical user interface focused on better user experience. Based on a broad community discussion involving several surveys and test sessions, we developed a new startup mechanism helping the users understand the data hierarchy and guiding them in their first steps. In addition, our surveys helped to identify a number of opportunities for improvements, including a need for a Single-Window mode that could fully replace the traditional Multi-Window GUI that has been in GRASS since the first GUI version in 1999. Therefore, during the GSoC 2021 project, the first steps towards the Single-Window GUI were established, eventually leading to the friedlier GRASS GUI in version 8.2. Come and listen to the presentation describing how a community-driven approach helped to steer the development direction of the GRASS graphical user interface to satisfy both GIS beginners and advanced users. You can also look forward to the brand-new screenshots of the GUI in version 8.2 that might eventually inspire you to try GRASS on your own.
