<description>GDAL provides extensive capabilities for processing GeoTIFFs and other spatial data formats. However, until recently, the use of GDAL in web applications was limited to server-side code. This talk will describe how we use WebAssembly and a new wrapper library we developed, called Loam, to make GDAL's suite of tools accessible from client-side code. This strategy enables improved user experiences and can lower infrastructure costs for web applications handling GeoTIFFs and other spatial data. This talk will cover: Description of WebAssembly and how it enables GDAL to be run within a web browser., Description of the Loam wrapper library., Example integration of Loam and GDAL into a simple React application., Examples / demos of other ways to use GDAL within client-side applications to improve user experience and reduce infrastructure costs., Authors and Affiliations – Dohler, Derek Azavea, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Track – Software Topic – Software/Project development Level – 2 - Basic. General basic knowledge is required. Language of the Presentation – English</description>
