The vision is to establish a common European data space based on domain-specific data spaces in strategic sectors such as environment, agriculture, industry, health and transportation. Policy-making has been widely recognised by the European Commission (e.g. [2]). In the geospatial domain, citizen-generated data is heavily shaping the evolution of traditional Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) into modern geospatial data ecosystems [3], [4]. Hence, combination and integration of data from different sources—in particular authoritative and citizen-generated data—acquires primary importance. This study focuses on citizen-generated data from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project. OSM, the most popular example of crowdsourced geographic information project, consists of an openly-licensed database of vector features—currently contributed by more than 1.6 million volunteers—representing any object with a physical location on the Earth’s surface.
